For the property located on the seafront in the village of Cannigione, the former Youth Hostel, long home to the State Police Station, owned by the Municipality of Arzachena, after a free loan for use, the annual rent is now considered appropriate—taking into account its institutional purpose and the collaboration between the two administrations—at €2,000 per month, with annual ISTAT adjustments.

Ordinary management costs, utilities, and cleaning will be covered by the Ministry of the Interior, the tenant of the property; extraordinary maintenance costs and fire insurance will be covered by the Municipality of Arzachena, the owner of the property. The two-story building has a total usable internal floor area of approximately 650 m². This represents a resolution to a long-running dispute between the Municipality and the Ministry of the Interior/State Police.

The loan agreement had expired and then been extended several times, generating friction between the two entities, culminating in an eviction order (April 2024), subsequently suspended by the Municipality, which granted a further extension to the loan agreement, so as not to leave the facility unprotected. The City Council resolution of October 29th therefore mandated the director of Sector 2 (Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Protection, State Property and Heritage) to sign the institutional lease agreement with the Ministry of the Interior – Department of Public Safety.

Since last July, Dr. Valentina Piras has been leading the Porto Cervo State Police Station, based in Cannigione. During a visit to Mayor Ragnedda, along with Sassari Police Chief Mastrapasqua, the arrival of 10 new officers for the Cannigione station was announced. The Cannigione Police Station is an important law enforcement hub for a large area, highly frequented especially during the summer, which includes the municipalities of Arzachena, Palau, and La Maddalena.
