The second event, yesterday morning in Caprera, was part of this year's celebratory program, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the acquisition of the Garibaldino Museum by the Ministry of Culture.
Following the exhibition for the Unification of Italy, the inauguration of the exhibition titled "The Same Sea. From Giuseppe Garibaldi to Carlo Battaglia" took place. The paintings of this La Maddalena native, a renowned artist of international stature, are displayed in the "mill" room , in the first house built by Garibaldi, at the entrance to the White House, and in a small room inside, normally closed to the public. The paintings on display are from the Municipality of La Maddalena, Antonio Frau, and Alberto Rava.
The morning was opened by Melissa Ricetti, director of the National Museums of Sardinia, followed by an introduction by Sergio Cappai, director of the Garibaldini Museums of Caprera. Silvia Pinna, art historian of the National Museum of Sardinia, profiled Carlo Battaglia, placing him in the context of 20th-century artistic movements and his ties to La Maddalena. Finally, Alberto Rava spoke.
Among those present were the deputy mayor of La Maddalena, Federica Porcu, the councilor for culture, Gianvincenzo Belli, and the former director of the Garibaldini Museums of Caprera, Giannina Granara.
"This is an exhibition we strongly desired," stated director Sergio Cappai, "to represent the connection between the Garibaldi collection and the Garibaldi museums on Caprera and the surrounding area. The idea for the exhibition stems from an image as simple as it is profound: the sea, as an element that represents both Garibaldi and his voyages, his exiles, and his returns, as well as the pictorial research of Carlo Battaglia, who explored the sea in depth, depicting it in numerous works, some of which are on display in this exhibition." Carlo Battaglia's works are accompanied, in each room of the exhibition, by a series of quotations from Giuseppe Garibaldi's letters, quotations that relate to the sea.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until May 23.
