"This morning I informed Director Marcias of my resignation from my position as Administrative Director of the Company."

Thus – in a letter addressed to the top management of Arnas Brotzu – Antonio Guerrieri , whose nomination in recent months had been the subject of doubts and even political controversy ( THE STORY ).

"This is a decision," Guerrieri, a retired financier, explains in his letter, "that I had been considering for several days, but I wanted to wait, if not to complete it, then at least to clearly address two important disputes I had personally handled and which, in my opinion, required maximum transparency: the incentives for technical positions, for which I personally oversaw the drafting of new company regulations, the provisions of which I hope will be extended to other companies within the National Health Service; and the Transplant RARs, for which the Region has allocated €1.2 million for 2025, but which the budget adjustment recently approved by the Regional Council already projects a sum of more than €2 million for 2026."

"On July 24th and 27th," Guerrieri continues, "the first two training courses for the newly established register of technical function holders, required by Article 4 bis of the regulation, were held, with attendance exceeding expectations. This is the first step toward expanding the professional skills available within the company, which for the first time aims to involve healthcare staff, along with administrative staff, in the spending procedures, not only from a technical but also a remuneration perspective. At the same time, on July 28th, we finalized the union agreement on RAR Transplants; a significant agreement, which required over two months of intense negotiations, and whose effects will not be limited to 2025 but will extend to 2026 and subsequent years, having completely revised the severance pay tables with the relevant professional figures and the related parameters."

"Unfortunately, as many of you already know," Guerrieri continues, " I accepted the role of Administrative Director at great personal cost, while also serving as Support Administrator for a family member who requires my constant assistance, and who is based in Rome . I did so out of the respect, friendship, and shared values that bind me to General Director Marcias, who has always supported me, but above all because I was confident I could provide a useful contribution to the healthcare facility, especially in terms of independence and neutrality. But I cannot ignore my personal duties for much longer."

The letter continues: "The role of Administrative Director is too burdensome, not so much in terms of responsibilities—which are insignificant compared to those doctors shoulder in the operating room almost every day—but in terms of time commitment. Naturally, I'm sorry. Those who have known me know that in these months I have given my all, listening and communicating with everyone but also questioning unfortunately established practices. I hope this reform effort continues, even with whoever takes my place. Brotzu deserves it, the people who work there deserve it, and above all, the patients who approach you with trust and hope deserve it. For my part, I only hope that the experience I've gained in these months can continue to be useful. In the meantime," Guerrieri concludes, "I want to thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, not only for the warmth and friendliness with which you welcomed me, but also for the expressions of esteem you have often expressed. And please extend my greetings and thanks to all the doctors, healthcare workers, and administrators I have had the opportunity to meet and with whom I have been able to establish a relationship of trust and loyal, fruitful collaboration."
