The giant Ferris wheel in Piazzale della Pace in Alghero is starting to take shape and the first controversies are already arriving over the installation of the approximately 45-metre-high attraction which should go into operation in a few days.

The opposition in the city council invited the mayor Mario Conoci to take a tour together with his junta, "to allow them to see what state they have reduced the city to, neglecting concrete things and being interested only in ephemeral and futile ones and their courtyard quarrels ”, write the councilors of the Per Alghero, Futuro Comune, Sinistra in Comune and Pd groups in a note. «From above they could better observe what they still don't see or pretend not to see: the streets full of ditches, the scattered garbage, the weeds, the construction site for the swimming pool which has been stopped for two years, that of the former cotton mill and that of the town hall also blocked, the park of the Merenderia left to decay, the tennis courts of the Mercede and the Tarragona park abandoned, the Manno park with all the toys broken, the ban on bathing in San Giovanni, the parking lots that there are (starting with those taken away to put the revolving wheel…), the road network gone crazy, etcetera, etcetera».

According to the mayor's political opponents, therefore, there are other emergencies to be resolved "and not just the futilities on which they continue to spend all their time". But not everyone thinks the same way. Many on social networks have appreciated the novelty that will remain in Piazzale della Pace for 12 months, extendable for another 12. The giant wheel of the City Eye company is the same that has stood out in the port area of Cagliari in the last two years: 45 meters with 36 closed and air-conditioned cabins, three of which are reserved for people with disabilities. There is also piped music with a multilingual guide to describe the architectural and landscape beauties that can be admired from above. Finally, a deluxe cabin, with leather armchairs, oak planks on the floor, TV and mini-bar.
