The Regional Administrative Court of Sardinia has recognized the legitimacy of the cultural bond placed on the complex of the former penal colony of Tramariglio, the abandoned structure within the Regional Natural Park of Porto Conte, on the coast of Alghero. The restriction had been imposed by decree of 2015 by the Regional Commission for the cultural heritage of Sardinia, and the decision of the Tar rejected any appeal presented by the buyers of numerous properties, decommissioned in 1961, then transferred to the regional agricultural body Ersat, finally sold to individuals.

The buildings of the penal colony, built starting from the end of the 1930s, constitute an integrated example in the planning of the rural reclamation of the Nurra, inspired by the rationalist style, well inserted in a highly relevant environmental-landscape context. For the environmental association Legal Intervention Group chaired by Stefano Deliperi: «This result represents a further instrument for the protection and safeguarding of an area of exceptional environmental and naturalistic value, which is part of the natural park».

According to the bodies of the Ministry of Culture "the settlement of Tramariglio, which is part of the broader framework of territorial planning connected with the reclamation and rural colonization of the Nurra, is linked to the founding urban experience of Fertilia and constitutes a rare example of a penal colony -rural result of an organic project expressed in the rationalist-purist architecture of the 30s, skilfully inserted in the suggestive natural scenery of Porto Conte and built with the "mixed" system of the time that combines traditional masonry techniques with those of reinforced concrete floors".
