Alghero-Linate, Salaris (Reformers): "We raised the alarm in January."

" In January, I called the tender for territorial continuity between Alghero and Linate a failure, and I urged the Transport Councilor not to dismiss the matter with the promise of a simple extension. I said that wasn't a solution and that the risk was dragging northwest Sardinia into a situation of ongoing uncertainty. Unfortunately, that's exactly what's happening."

Aldo Salaris, regional councilor for the Sardinian Reformers, spoke in response to the Region's decision to restart the tender process for the territorial continuity of service on the Alghero-Linate route. After the first tender failed to materialize, the second was also revoked following concerns from the European Commission, with the launch of the new service postponed to February 1, 2027. Meanwhile, the Region has requested a further extension of the current regime from the Ministry to avoid interrupting the connection.

"If this extension is not granted within the necessary timeframe, between the end of October and the beginning of February, the route could be without public service obligations. During that period, the protections afforded to residents would cease, and airlines would be free to set fares. This would be a huge blow to those who use this route every day, including workers, students, families, people who must travel for health reasons, and the entire economic system of northwest Sardinia," explains Salaris. "Beyond the technical reasons provided by the Region, the political aspect, in the opinion of the regional councilor, remains clear. It remains a fact that is difficult to dispute. After months of work, we still have no definitive contract and a procedure that must be started from scratch. This is the true political failure of the Todde administration, which continues to chase emergencies instead of preventing them."

The Reformers' councilor reiterates the need for more effective management of the service. "Territorial continuity cannot be administered by extension after extension. We're talking about an essential service that requires planning, preparation, and the ability to manage even the most complex aspects of procedures in a timely manner. When, months later, we still find ourselves without a stable solution, it means something has gone wrong," concludes Aldo Salaris's statement.
