At dawn on October 13, 2024, he caused a head-on collision on the provincial road connecting Olmedo to Alghero, killing 55-year-old Carabiniere Pietro Mastino . For that road homicide, Davide Giovanni Sancis, 35, from Olmedo, who tested positive for alcohol and drugs immediately after the accident, agreed to a plea bargain sentence of 2 years and 8 months in prison.

The sentence was issued by the preliminary hearing judge of the Sassari Court, Gian Paolo Piana, the prosecutor was Angelo Beccu, while the victim's family, who have already received financial compensation from the convicted man, had joined the civil action with their lawyer, Stefano Carboni.

According to the findings and investigations conducted by the Carabinieri, the Fiat Panda driven by Sancis, who was returning home after a night out with friends, was traveling at a speed of 125 km/h and, while negotiating the semi-curve in front of the Quadriflor, crossed into the oncoming lane, crashing into the Seat Ibiza driven by Pietro Mastino, who was on his way to the barracks in Alghero to start work.

The policeman died within moments, while Sancis was seriously injured and arrested on charges of vehicular homicide. The criminal proceedings concluded today with a plea bargain.
