A waste disposal worker from Alghero was caught by the police while he was preparing a dose of heroin on his service vehicle, during his work shift .
It happened this morning, when the men of the Alghero Public Safety Commission caught the man red-handed.
The company vehicle used for door-to-door waste collection attracted the attention of the officers because it had been stopped for a long time in front of a driveway and inside the operator was fiddling around, looking around , without carrying out any work activity.
So the officers decided to investigate and approached. When he saw them, the man tried to get rid of a vial of yellowish liquid, spilling it on the truck's floor mat. Next to him was a syringe, a tourniquet, and a lighter . Forensic investigators were called to the scene, and tests confirmed the substance spilled on the floor mat was heroin .
The incident was reported to the company, and investigations revealed that the man had left his designated area during his shift to take drugs . This disruption of public service prompted him to report the man to the Judicial Authority. The man was also reported to the Prefecture as a drug user.
