A risky overtaking cost the lives of Alessio Massessi, 38 years old, tourist entrepreneur and DJ from Villaputzu, and Ambra Utzeri, 32 years old, from Villasimius, mother of three children. The fatal crash was caused by Serena Dessì, 51 years old, from Castiadas, who today was sentenced at first instance to two years in prison (suspended sentence, like her driving licence, for the same period) because she was considered solely responsible for the fatal accident which occurred at 10am on November 21, 2021, on provincial road 19 in Castiadas.
The only fault of the victims, according to the sentence - which will be challenged on appeal - was that of being at kilometer 8,700 of the Sarrabus road when the woman began the maneuver which proved fatal.
Dessì was traveling in his Peugeot 106, headed towards Castiadas, when at a speed of over 100 kilometers per hour (with a limit of 90) he tried to overtake the Fiat Grande Punto driven by Ambra Utzeri. However, Massessi was arriving from the opposite direction, at the wheel of his Opel Vivaro van. The fifty-one-year-old then tried to return. In doing so he hit Utzeri's car and both vehicles crashed into the van.
The young mother died instantly, Massessi had time to remove his seat belt and try to get out, but his foot was stuck and so, outside the passenger compartment, the rescuers found him and tried in vain to resuscitate him .
The conviction was issued in front of Massessi's relatives, who turned to the experts made available by Studio3A-Valore Spa, who they relied on to see their rights protected.
