The nasopharyngeal swabs of passengers on the flight landed Sunday night in Alghero from Fiumicino continue in the course of today. On board, one person tested positive for Covid but it remains to be ascertained, through sequencing, whether it is the Omicron variant. All 130 travelers, meanwhile, have been quarantined and among these also some players and managers of Torres Calcio who were returning from an away match.
The positive man, who arrived from Africa and passed through Rome, has no symptoms.
For the head of the North Ats Sardinia prevention department, Francesco Sgarangella, the new protocol has been fully respected. "As soon as the positivity of the passenger arriving from abroad was confirmed - he explains - tracing and preventive measures were taken not only for the passengers who traveled alongside him (as was expected until last week before the strengthening of the procedures wanted by the ministry) but for all the people who were on that flight. Meanwhile, the passenger's swab is being processed in the Microbiology and Virology laboratory of the Aou in Sassari directed by Professor Salvatore Rubino ”. The sequencing of the virus, which will give the definitive answer, is expected to finish on Monday.
If the variant were confirmed it would be the first case of Omicron in Sardinia.
