For many years , Fausto Mura, entrepreneur and president of Federalberghi Sud Sardegna, has been one of the strongest voices against the privatization of Elmas airport (and its merger with Olbia and Alghero), "an operation beyond all logic, a veritable suicide."
First of all, remember that "BlackRock, the world's largest hedge fund, has entered F2i Ligantia, which also wants to acquire the Cagliari airport." This risks "having an airport (and a monopoly on the island), managed with only one goal: profit."
He then recalls how the Cagliari-Elmas airport is the only gateway to and from the south of the island "because the port on Via Roma handles just 5% of the region's passenger traffic." Therefore , "giving all this away to a hedge fund is pure madness." Furthermore, Cagliari airport "has a very solid balance sheet; it is one of the very few companies with a net profit equal to 30% of its turnover."
And therefore, the reflection is that «the sale of the largest airport on an island would at least deserve a public debate open to all stakeholders , not secret meetings».
