The criminal case is open (as reported by Unione Sarda, ed. ) . The Cagliari prosecutor has appointed a deputy to fully investigate the proposed merger and privatization of Sardinia's airports. The Guardia di Finanza is already at work, delegated by the regional prosecutor's office of the Court of Auditors. The Carabinieri have initiated investigations on their own initiative. Meanwhile, the deadline for the operation has expired. Three facts, no explanation: from the Region, for now, only silence.
On the day the agreement expires, the so-called term sheet, signed by the Region, the Cagliari-Oristano Chamber of Commerce, F2i, and the Fondazione di Sardegna, which forms the basis of the operation to create a single holding company for the three airports of Cagliari, Olbia, and Alghero, the center-right minority in the Regional Council is moving together, loudly demanding that Regional President Alessandra Todde report to the Regional Council chamber, and that she do so urgently.
"Let's get one thing straight, because we're not interested in making headlines: it's not up to us to determine whether and what responsibilities there are; that's up to the judiciary, and the presumption of innocence applies to everyone," all the group leaders wrote, "but it's up to us, and the Regional Council, to know what the Regional Council is doing with the island's airport system. And on this point, we don't accept learning from court reports." For FdI, FI, Riformatori, and Sardegna al Centro 20 Venti, "airports are not just any asset: they are the infrastructure on which tourism, businesses, and the right to mobility for those who live in Sardinia depend."
For this reason, "we ask the President to come to the Chamber and report, and to do so immediately: how did the operation arise, who conducted it and with what measures, why did the term sheet expire, what happens now? These are simple questions. If the answers are equally simple, there should be no difficulty in providing them before the Council."
The other point concerns the Region's air transport strategy more generally: "Merger or no, privatization or no, with what guarantees for territorial continuity, for routes, for public control. For this reason, regardless of what the President wants to tell us in the Chamber, the center-right will present a motion obliging the Regional Council to set out a clear line and bring it to the Council before taking further action on the future of Sardinian airports," is the announcement.
