When the Areus agreement expires in 2026, a new procedure will be announced for the assignment of the helicopter rescue. On Monday, the Lanusei City Council reiterated its request that a base be established in the Fire Department detachment.

Yesterday, the regional councilor Pd Salvatore Corrias tried to clarify the process, which began in March with the request from the hospital's health management. On May 19, the department included an additional base for helicopter rescue in the regional development program. It could be Lanusei. But it doesn't seem obvious. Coverage is guaranteed by law 12 of May 8.

Corrias writes: «The General Directorate of the regional procurement center has been given the delegation to carry out the necessary formalities to start the procedure itself; that to analyze the technical-logistical aspects of the structure of the future Hems network, a specific Technical Design Group has been set up, which must evaluate, with a view to improving the levels of emergency health care, on the basis of objective, transparent and functional criteria, the location of the new optimal helicopter rescue base to minimize the average times to reach the targets and maximize the coverage of the reachable territory according to the parameters of the New Guarantee System».

Mayor Davide Burchi emphasizes the value of Lanusei's choice: «The municipal council of Lanusei, based on the importance it has always recognized in the helicopter rescue service, has deemed it necessary, also based on the evolution of the reasoning on the new service that will be prepared through the call to be published in 2026 on regional helicopter rescue, to clarify the situation by reiterating the importance for the level of health services of the entire Ogliastra territory and nominating the current surface of the fire brigade also enabled for night flight as a regional hub. This is not only in the interest of the health system but in that of the regional health system. It is not a battle of Lanusei but of everyone and every contribution will be welcome».
