"My client is 93 years old, he is exhausted. He did not immediately understand that he had been acquitted on the merits and when we explained to him the formula used by the judge he was moved, he broke down. Mario Decandia suffered several months of house arrest and a trial that lasted almost ten years. But he had an alibi and when he tried to prove it he was arrested": criminal lawyer Giampaolo Murrighile speaks immediately after the sentence that closes the case of the attempted murder of Lu Picurili.

The judges of the Tempio Tribunal this evening cleared Decandia of the charge of having shot at the home of Salvatore Rino Fideli , an episode that occurred in the countryside between Olbia and Loiri. The facts date back to 2016 and Murrighile in his very harsh defense speech spoke of an investigation based on suggestions, of alternative leads never taken and of an accusatory thesis followed uncritically by the investigators of the Arma.

Murrighile says: «My client had an alibi, the night of the attempted murder he was having dinner with some acquaintances. When he tried to assert his reasons he was arrested. Not only that, the people who told the truth and confirmed that they had been with him that day were passed off as abettors. Decandia was accused of having pre-established the alibi. Very serious facts. The preliminary hearing has instead shown that Mario Decandia has always told the truth. Today he was acquitted, but this story has taken a piece of his life. And during the investigations facts emerged that have never been explored in depth».

According to the Tempio Prosecutor's Office, Decandia shot at the house of Olbia resident Salvatore Fideli (founder of the Ripping nightclub in San Teodoro) after an argument about transit and hunting activities on private land. Murrighile insisted on the total absence of a motive in the reconstruction that saw Decandia accused, and the judges agreed with him.
