Quartu City Council President Rita Murgioni couldn't have found more fitting words: " We want to preserve the memory of a just man, a good man, who showed us that shouting isn't necessary to clarify matters, and he described the city with a firm and human style." And Natale Dessì, a journalist and correspondent for L'Unione Sarda for forty years, was just that: he knew every corner of Quartu, and throughout his many years as a journalist, he described the city with his attentive gaze.
For this reason, 22 years after his passing, the city council decided to name a green square after him in Quartello, between Via Norvegia and Via Italia. The plaque was unveiled by his grandchildren (Lorenzo, Valentina, and Ilaria). They were joined by their parents, the journalist's children, Giuseppe, Maria Luigia, and Emanuele, who followed his example (he now directs the newspapers of the L'Unione Sarda publishing group).
Mayor Graziano Milia: "When I think about Christmas, I still have fun because we had so much fun together. He was truly a wonderful person, whom I loved so much. A man of balance, frank, direct, who didn't mince his words ." Among those speaking were councilors Antonio Conti and Tiziana Cogoni . city councilors . There was also a delegation from the National Association of Carabinieri .
President Murgioni had already submitted a request in 2017 to name the square after Dessì, which then came to fruition, as she herself explained, "now thanks to our mayor, the municipal council, and the toponymy commission chaired by Luisella Deligios ." "The thing that makes me most happy," said Giuseppe Dessì, one of Natale's three sons, who went on to pursue a career as an orthopedic doctor , " is that there is recognition for my father's dedication to Quartu. He was proud to be from Quartu ."
