Regarding the incident involving the passenger with cancer who was temporarily denied boarding on the Aeroitalia flight from Milan Linate to Olbia, the airline announced that ensuring the safety and boarding of passengers "is its top priority" and that the woman "was nevertheless allowed to board, once the necessary checks were completed and the appropriate medical documentation was obtained."

International air transport regulations, as explained in a statement, "require passengers with specific medical conditions, including medical devices such as peritoneal drains, to present appropriate official and detailed medical documentation. This requirement is not a mere formality but a guarantee of safety for both the passenger and the airline, as emergency situations during the flight may require specific interventions."

In the case reported by Dario Giagoni, a member of the League party in Gallura, the airline clarified: "The passenger presented herself with a medical certificate in the form of a photograph received via WhatsApp, apparently issued by her family doctor. However, this documentation did not meet the standards required for the safe transport of a passenger with delicate medical conditions. To ensure the passenger's health, Aeroitalia staff requested that her fitness to fly be verified by the medical center at Linate Airport, as required by safety protocols. After the medical center's intervention, which issued a new, adequate and compliant certificate, the passenger was guaranteed boarding on the next available flight."

The company added: "We understand the inconvenience this has caused the passenger, who is already experiencing health issues, but we believe the procedure adopted was necessary to ensure compliance with the rules and safeguard her well-being during the journey," the statement concluded.
