However, the change will have a limited impact on the island compared to other regions: Aeroitalia announces that it will still require documents from passengers on routes under the territorial continuity regime , to verify residency and the correct application of discounted fares. On all other domestic and Schengen area flights, however, the airline's ticket will suffice.

The new procedures —already active at most airports—were announced by ENAC after receiving approval from the Ministry of the Interior in recent days and will halve the length of boarding checks.

But many doubts remain about security procedures. The change has sparked discussion among trade unions and consumer groups, who point out that eliminating the requirement to present the document poses several challenges: for example, it would allow passengers to use third-party boarding passes or board a plane disguised as someone else, completely concealing their identity.
