A trainee at the Cagliari Court of Appeal was rescued after drinking from a water bottle that, according to initial investigations, had been tampered with. The young woman, now out of danger, had purchased the sealed bottle and drank a sip. Shortly thereafter, she felt a burning sensation in her throat and discomfort and was taken to the emergency room.
A tiny hole was found in the plastic of the bottle, likely made with a syringe needle and then closed to prevent the liquid from leaking. After drinking, the young woman noticed a sweetish odor and taste and later discovered the hole. The bottle was seized by the Carabinieri of the Judicial Police Section of the Public Prosecutor's Office—after the Public Prosecutor opened a file—and will be analyzed to determine the nature of the contamination and the amount.
Last night the girl was still under observation, but her condition was not worrying.
The news has alarmed the judicial offices in Piazza Repubblica. Inspections are planned today on all water supplies in the entire Palace of Justice. No avenues have been ruled out at this time, while the case is being closely monitored by Chief Prosecutor Rodolfo Sabelli and Attorney General Luigi Patronaggio.
