A family "fed" by the Carabinieri in Mandas, the mayor: "The problem isn't real; they're receiving subsidies."

"There's no problem. That family receives a pension and a Reis (Energy and Social Security) allowance. Maybe we need to figure out what happens to the money they receive." Mandas Mayor Umberto Oppus doesn't want his municipality to be seen as failing to care for its citizens in need. "And no one has shown up here."
The mayor discusses the story of a family who called the local Carabinieri station to say there was nothing to eat at home . The officers paid for the food themselves: according to the reconstruction provided, they lacked the documents needed to access the institutional aid protocols. This is a case of solidarity on the part of the Carabinieri, the details of which, according to Oppus, need to be clarified.
"Knowing my community well, one thing is quite clear," Oppus states: "I don't belong to the club of those who believe money can be "extorted" from municipalities or parishes, and everyone should rightly obtain resources or social contributions legally." And the term "extorted" doesn't appear to have been chosen by chance.
"The ISEE," Oppus continues, "is not an invention of the social worker of the Municipality of Mandas. And to be quite clear: we are for legality and respect for the law," he emphasizes sibyllinely.
Oppus adds: "Given the election season, I hope there aren't any third-party problems. Because thinking the worst is a sin , and you're almost always right, said someone who knew priests who weren't exactly in line with the Holy Roman Church."
