The Siddùra winery in Luogosanto continues to reap international successes. The latest one features once again Maìa, Vermentino di Gallura DOCG. The 2023 harvest won first place in the panel dedicated to Vermentinos organized by Decanter, one of the most authoritative wine publications in the world. As stated in a press release, «among 83 Vermentino wines tasted, from Sardinia and Tuscany, Maìa clearly stood out, obtaining the highest score: 95 points. The judges – Jason Millar, Michael Garner and Vincenzo Arnese, leading figures in the world of wine – had no doubts, calling it without hesitation “An impressive wine”».
"Competing with national and international productions has always been a philosophy of life for Siddùra: 867 awards ago our company received its first recognition, precisely from Decanter and precisely with the Maìa", underlines Mattia Piludu, general manager of Siddùra . "Today the quality and elegance of the products are confirmed, which, year after year, make us proud to be part of this company. Questioning ourselves and measuring ourselves against the most established markets allows us to have a broader vision. Tradition and innovation meet in the meticulous work that we carry out every day. We know that we still have a long way to go", concludes Piludu, "and these awards comfort us and make our work increasingly stimulating".
The Decanter ranking, with Siddùra in first place overall, also has a specific commercial value. The recognitions of the most authoritative wine critics are added to those of the market. "Maìa is a wine that satisfies the most demanding palates of end consumers around the world", confirms Massimiliano Farci, sales director of the Sardinian winery. " It is a wine that has given the winery a lot of satisfaction since its birth and that shows a double-digit growth trend in sales. This recognition gives us once again awareness of the fact that the path taken is the right one: producing high-quality, long-lived native Sardinian wines that express the unique characteristics of the production area and with the right quality/price ratio".
"Today the vines that give rise to Maìa are at the height of their maturity and represent the fruit of a set of choices: soil, rootstock, clone and exposure have allowed us to obtain such a result", explains the oenologist Dino Dini , underlining the characteristics of Maìa 2023. "Behind Maìa there is another project: to produce a wine that was satisfying from its release on the market, but also capable of improving with the passage of time. Starting from a raw material of undoubted quality, the challenge was to enhance the characteristics of longevity of this wine, hence the use of large-capacity oak barrels already from the first stages of fermentation".
