There are 69 the best wines from Southern Italy, selected by an international jury of sector journalists on the occasion of the fifth edition of the "Sud Top Wine" wine competition promoted by Cronache di Gusto.

Over 700 wines tasted from six regions - Sardinia but also Campania, Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria and Sicily - all tasted blind by the jury who decreed three winning wines for each of the 23 categories of the competition.

The prizes were awarded by Wojciech Bońkowski, Master of Wine and director of the Polish magazine "Ferment", Federico Latteri of Cronache di Gusto, Anthony Rose, contributor of the magazine "Decanter", Eleonora Scholes, of the Russian online magazine "Spazio Vino" and Claudia Stern, journalist of the magazine “Vinum” and founder of “Wine & Glory”.

The awards ceremony will be held in Taormina on Saturday 28 October at 3pm at the Hotel “Villa Diodoro” as part of “Taormina Gourmet”, the three days dedicated to masterclasses, tasting tables and cooking shows, scheduled from 28 until October 30th. It will be a special occasion to bring together the main wine producers of the six regions involved and recognize the oenological excellence they represent.

This year too, the award-winning wineries will have a sticker to affix to the neck of the bottle of the award-winning wine which will bear the competition logo with the indication "1st place" (for the first place) and "winner" (for the second and third classified).

«Our intent - states Fabrizio Carrera, director of Cronache di gusto and creator of the Sud Top Wine competition - is also to bring together all the Agriculture Councilors of the six regions involved who will symbolically sign the Quality Pact, to represent the interest in defending the most representative products of the South. This will be an important media moment through which an agreement can be signed in order to improve synergies in this area of Italy."
