Sardinia has been included, by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, in the pediatric pilot screening to detect antibodies for type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. The population affected by the test concerns minors aged between 0 and 17 years.

«The need to include Sardinia had been correctly underlined by the president of the Social Affairs commission of the Chamber, Ugo Cappellacci, given the very high incidence of these pathologies on the island, among the highest in the world – explains Giorgio Mulè, representative of Forza Italia in the Chamber and first signatory of law 130 of 2023 -. The immediate sensitivity shown by Dr. Marco Silano, director of the Istituto Superiore Sanità, with the collaboration of the other luminaries participating in the table for the implementation lines of the law meant that Sardinia was promptly included among the pilot regions. The news arrives on the day in which an editorial signed by Professor Emanuele Bosi and Professor Carlo Catassi was published in "Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology", explaining the rationale and objectives of our law to the scientific community. The global authority of this publication and the academic and professional standing of the two authors, both involved in drafting the law on screening, mean that Italy is seen as a point of reference thanks to this law."
