Inflation "sustained" in Italy in 2022, with an average of +8.1%, given that in Sardinia it is even higher, with 9.1%, the highest percentage at national level, after that of Sicily and Trentino Alto Adige. highlights the new survey released by Istat.

«In the month of last December alone – the Institute of Statistics also indicates – inflation was confirmed as above the national figure (+11.6% on an annual basis) in the Islands (slowing down from +14.1% to + 13.9%) and in the South (stable at +11.7%), while it is below in the North-East (decelerating from +11.8% to +11.5%), in the North-West (stable to +11.4%) and in the Center (a slowdown from +11.5% +11.0%). Among the capitals of regions and autonomous provinces and among non-regional capitals with more than 150,000 inhabitants, the highest inflation is observed in Catania (+14.7%), Palermo (+14.6%) and Messina (+13.9%), while the smallest trend changes are recorded in Potenza (+9.2%) and Aosta (+8.5%). Among the major cities, the figure for Cagliari (+11.7%) also stands out, higher than the national average (+11.6%).

«In 2022 - comments Istat - consumer prices recorded an average yearly growth of 8.1%, marking the largest increase since 1985 (when it was +9.2%), mainly due to the energy price trend (+50.9% on average for the year in 2022, compared to +14.1% in 2021). Net of these goods, last year, the growth in consumer prices was +4.1% (from +0.8% in 2021). The acquired inflation, or carryover, for 2023 (i.e. the average growth that would occur in the year if prices remained stable throughout 2023) is instead equal to +5.1%, higher than that observed for 2022 , when it was +1.8%».
