It is a red warning for the Sardinian countryside. The rains of recent weeks are not enough to reassure the farmers and in the next few months the basins of the island could reach a state of full water emergency . Last year, in this period, the situation of the reservoirs was very different from the current one, and entrepreneurs fear a year with a dropper .

«With the Maccheronis basin at 80% of its total capacity, and Petra and Othoni at just 70%, trusting in a spring full of rains, it is however necessary to take into consideration a whole series of variables that depend solely and exclusively on the 'weather trend», explains Ambrogio Guiso , president of the Central Sardinia Reclamation Consortium. In other words: the amount of water currently available may not be sufficient for normal delivery if spring is characterized by particularly low rainfall.

The president of the Southern Sardinia Reclamation Consortium, Efisio Perra , adds: «We are certainly not calm about the future. Compared to last year, the picture has completely changed and the scarce amount of resources is leaving us with bated breath in view of the summer. Tomorrow we will have the certainty from Adis (the regional agency of the hydrographic district of Sardinia) on the quantities of water that will be granted to each district, but as of now, as a precaution, we are pre-assigning 50% of what was provided in 2022 to the members". .
