There is also a bit of Sardinia in the French Saints, the Piedmontese duo winner of

Frontman Alessandro De Santis is originally from Burcei: his grandfather Efisio Contini emigrated to Piedmont at a very young age, and then returned to Castiadas many years later. And that's where Alessandro spends his summers.

«I feel very Sardinian – he tells L'Unione Sarda – among other things I have a giant mamuthone tattooed on my arm. I've been going there on holiday since I was born. Without taking anything away from all the other regions, I believe it is the most extraordinary in Italy."

«When you think of Sardinia you only think of the coast, the wonderful sea – continues the 25-year-old, now considered a sex symbol among the very young but super engaged to the actress Matilda De Angelis -. And instead the hinterland preserves a brilliant culture and folklore, like the masks, aesthetically beautiful and disturbing due to their history."

In the Island De Santis (vocals, guitar, ukulele) and Mario Francese (producer, keyboards, synth, bass) also found their inspiration last spring: «We were there together, we brought our studio home for five days of grandparents, in Costa Rei. We did some sessions in this house facing the sea. I admit that the sea always helps, it takes away all your worries."

The French Saints are young but they have already done a lot : first Amici (then they were The Jab), then the Sky talent show won in 2022. Starting from Sanremo Giovani with the song Occhi Tristi, they convinced with the electropop ballad L'amore in mouth.

And there is great anxiety for the evening of duets when they will sing with the international superstar Skin to the tune of "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen . «We couldn't find anyone in Italy willing to do this with us. Then, at the last minute we asked Skin and she accepted! We are overjoyed, she said she had never heard a version like ours, she was thrilled and so this madness will happen."
