Great excitement in Samugheo for the return of "A Maimone", the review of the masks of the ancient Sardinian carnival, and beyond, capable of attracting a very large audience from all over the island. The event, now in its twenty-sixth edition, will be held in early February.

The organizers of the cultural association Mamutzones de Samugheo are at work, but the release of the Mamutzones is already scheduled for 16 January, the eve of Sant'Antoni de su fogu. At nightfall they will dance, as per tradition, around the fire. Ancestral anthropomorphic and zoomorphic masks typical of the Barbagia carnival, goat robes, woolen cloth and cowbells, propitiatory dances that evoke mysterious rites: in Samugheo history and culture, celebration and tradition intertwine for "A Maimone" in a day dedicated to sounds, colors , which promises, as usual, strong emotions. An atmosphere shared by the population of the center of Mandrolisai who are preparing to reserve the typical welcome that has characterized the event organized by the Mamutzones de Samugheo Cultural Association for over a quarter of a century.

«We are preparing to return in style – admits the president of the Mamutzones de Samugheo cultural association Igor Saderi – with lots of new features and an ambitious programme. In the coming days we will announce the official date and the list of groups that is being finalized. The aftermath linked to the pandemic in the field of transport is not making our work easier, but we are confident that we can offer a great edition which for us and for all events like ours tastes like a restart after very difficult years due to the emergency pandemic".
