Matteo Salvini's announced (and never made) trip to Moscow to put an end to the war in Ukraine has become a coincidence. Criticism from all sides for the Northern League leader, who does not have a government mandate to go and negotiate and many are wondering what title he is doing.

On behalf of the party , he explains to journalists close to the Senate: “International relations are in the hands of me and the foreign manager Lorenzo Fontana. A party leader has the honor and the burden, in the name of peace, to decide who to meet and when ”.

On ministers kept in the dark: "I like to do things and announce them once the result is obtained, the goal was to go to Moscow and return home with a concrete result to offer to the government".

A journey that, apparently, will not be done by now. “Is he still standing? But if they lynched me even before I left. I am working from Rome and Milan: if the Democratic Party does not want to, we will try to achieve the same result by telephone by waiting for Letta and Di Maio ".

The contact, then specifies the Northern League leader , was not Putin: "I haven't heard from him for years, one of the contacts in progress is the Foreign Minister ". But did Lavrov give his consent to the meeting? "Let's say that if I wanted I could go there tomorrow, to Moscow, to Istanbul ...".
