“Alberi Erranti,” Salvatore Mereu ’s new film, has been selected for the international competition at the 79th Locarno Film Festival, which will take place from August 5 to 15, 2026.

Based on the novel “Wandering and Shipwrecked Trees” by Alberto Capitta , published by Il Maestrale, the film is a Viacolvento production with Rai Cinema and brings to the screen the fate of three families: the Nonne, rough, hasty and mean to the point of being unbelievable; the Arca, romantics who live in harmony with nature; and finally the family of the notary Branca.

"From the clash of these universes," a statement reads, "a tale is born that tells of the difficult search for one's identity and the freedom to be oneself. At the heart of the narrative is the conflict between generations, particularly that between fathers and sons, and the fear of the other, of what is different."
