Jannik Sinner defeated Sebastian Ofner in his debut at the Italian Open. On the clay courts of the Foro Italico in Rome, the South Tyrolean defeated the Austrian in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in the second round of the tournament. The Italian now awaits the winner of the match between Alexei Popyrin and Jakub Mensik.
"For us Italians, this is always one of the most important tournaments of the year. The first matches are always more difficult, I'm happy to be here and the goal is to go as far as possible. Now we have to raise the level," Sinner said after the victory. He added: "Last year was incredible and this year too I'm playing well: the most important thing is to be happy on the court, and thanks to the fans, it's easier."
