Moments of fear for Roberto Carlos da Silva.

The former Brazilian national team defender – but also for Inter, Real Madrid and Fenerbahçe – was rushed to hospital in Sao Paulo after an MRI scan of his leg revealed a heart problem , AS reports.

A blood clot reportedly caused a heart attack while he was on vacation.

The 52-year-old underwent surgery to insert a catheter and is under observation, but out of danger.

Roberto Carlos sent a message to the Spanish newspaper to reassure everyone: "I'm fine now, I'm under close observation."
