" Can a woman, a mother, a professional who enjoys the esteem of her employers be forced to reveal the painful truth of a private life marred by the illness of an irreversibly ill 7-year-old child? In Italy, today, evidently yes ." Antonella Giuli, sister of the Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli, writes this in an open letter to Corriere della Sera to respond to the accusations made by Report, which will be broadcast tonight.

"Antonella Giuli - thus, on its Facebook page, Report introduces a clip that anticipates one of the investigations broadcast tonight in prime time on Rai3 - very close to the sister of the prime minister Arianna Meloni, has been involved for years in communications for Fratelli d'Italia in the palaces of politics . Then last January came the career leap: hired at the press office of the Chamber of Deputies with a salary of about 120 thousand euros a year. We'll talk about it this evening at 8:30 pm on Rai3 ". After having turned the spotlight on the new Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, and in particular on the management of the MAXXI, Sigfrido Ranucci's program now turns its lens on his sister.

An attack that "induces me to make public a truth that my husband and I would have liked to protect in the strictest and most loving secrecy". "And I come to the point. Preceded by the media and intimidating drum entrusted to a gossip site (if you want to be honest), Sigfrido Ranucci's "Report" program is preparing to air a report this evening in which a theorem is supposedly constructed that I consider manipulative at the very least, if not also false and defamatory: Antonella Giuli, the undersigned, "we understand that she works for Fratelli d'Italia and that she never goes to the office"; in addition, during the weekend, she works for Fratelli d'Italia in clear conflict with the rules to which she is subjected by contract. That's exactly what "Report" correspondent Giorgio Mottola says - "we understand that you work for Fratelli d'Italia and that you never go to the office" - urging me as I was leaving the Chamber of Deputies, where I work as a press officer in the Presidency, together with other colleagues".

"Under the surface, but not too much - continues Giuli - the thesis of "Report" is perhaps that I deserted my job to put myself at the service of Arianna Meloni , to whom I am bound by a clear and public relationship of personal friendship, founded (why deny it?) on a past of common militancy in the Italian right-wing political parties and witnessed by photographs and video footage of which I am not ashamed, on the contrary. The theorem is easily refuted by those directly interested; starting with those who, at the top of the second branch of Parliament, have been able to verify and appreciate on a daily basis the self-denial and willingness with which I honor my professional commitment (the task entrusted to me from the very beginning was the management of the numerous daily press conferences organized by ALL the political groups in Montecitorio)".

"But there is something worse, something more slimy and insinuating in the questions of "Report": what does Antonella Giuli do during the weekend? Does she perhaps work for Fratelli d'Italia? I answered that question sincerely and precisely: I live the time freed from work as I see fit; that is, except for very rare cases, with my family. As obvious as my answer was, it is legitimate to doubt that this answer will be broadcast by "Report" and, if that happens, framing it in the right context, as well as respecting my right to privacy which is no different from that of every Italian citizen".

«This doubt, precisely - Antonella Giuli writes in the long letter - leads me to make public a truth that my husband and I would have liked to protect in the strictest and most loving secrecy: my weekends, my few moments of freedom torn from daily social life, but above all my nights and my tormented thoughts are dedicated to my duty as a mother of two small children, one of whom, Giulio, suffers from a serious disease that is treatable but not curable, such as to require the contribution of law 104 art.3 paragraph 3. This is why, as all the other press officers know, at dawn I am exempted from the selection of the press review to which my very generous colleagues dedicate themselves: I have to get my son ready and take him to school, where he is awaited by an admirable special education teacher. Was it necessary for me to go to such lengths? Yes and no, considering the climate of media attention (aggression?) to which I am subjected with increasing morbidity; perhaps, also, as the sister of a minister of the Republic…».

"But the real question - he continues - that I ask myself, that I ask you, is another: is it right or not that today I find myself in this condition? In the condition of having to justify in the open the right, recognized by law, to care for my untranslatable pain personified in Giulio? One day, if the illness allows him, my son will find out about all this and will ask me to account for it, he will ask us to account for it. I already know what to answer him. "Report" and all those who have contributed to fueling these false theories, what answer do they have, assuming they have one?"
