Tribute from the municipal council of Parrano to Renzo Galanello , late professor of the University of Cagliari remembered by his hometown in a meeting intended to commemorate his absolute human and professional value .

Galanello - director of the Second Pediatric Clinic of the University of Cagliari - died 11 years ago in Cagliari, and the social promotion body of the same name was dedicated to him, which in recent months has taken its first steps and which in recent days has visit with a delegation to the mayor Valentino Filippetti and the municipal council of Parrano.

Galanello , from the small Umbrian town in the province of Terni, had chosen to move to Sardinia after meeting Professor Antonio Cao in Perugia . On the island he had made the fight against thalassemia , a rare disease with a high incidence in the territory, the fulcrum of his clinical and research activity , gradually becoming the top technical-scientific reference for rare diseases in Sardinia, with a prestigious scientific career.

In Parrano, the Sardinian delegation was made up of the president of the organization Ivano Argiolas, the vice-president Stefano Sarais and the member Natale Ditel. During the meeting, which took place in the presence of some of Galanello's relatives, Argiolas also explained to the municipal council the aims of the body established in recent months, underlining the desire of the members to start important activities in favor of chronic patients, in particular people with thalassemia, but not only.

«It was a meeting that we were very keen on – comments President Argiolas – to pay homage to the memory of a man who gave so much to Sardinia and the Sardinians , who truly made the care of the chronically ill the reason for his human and professional journey. This visit is a further boost of enthusiasm for the initiatives that the Galanello organization will soon implement, without ceasing to be an incentive towards politics on such a delicate topic, such as assistance to a category of citizens who are particularly fragile: attention and dedicated resources are needed."

The Renzo Galanello Institution and the Municipality of Parrano have also agreed to start a process to arrive at a specific memorandum of understanding that aims to preserve and honor the memory of the professor over time with specific cultural and scientific initiatives carried out by mutual agreement.

The initiative concluded with a tribute to the professor's tomb, buried in the Parrano cemetery.
