U-turn by the Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara on the activation of the "Relationship Education" project in schools, for which the minister himself intended to entrust the role of guarantors to Sister Monia Alfieri, Paola Zeman and Paola Concia.

The nomination of the latter - a former PD deputy and LGBTY+ activist - had aroused harsh reactions from the centre-right, which defined Concia's name as too "divisive".

Hence Valditara's announcement: «Since the Italian school needs serenity and not controversy, I have decided not to activate the role of guarantors of the "Relationship Education" project for Sisters Monia Alfieri, Paola Concia and Paola Zerman. I renew my thanks to them for the availability and generosity shown", announced the minister. Adding: «The project will go ahead without any guarantor. In its concrete development, the dialogue will continue with the associations representing parents, teachers and students".

For his part, Concia commented: «I understand Minister Valditara's decision and I thank him for the trust placed in me: after two days of controversy from maximalist circles of the right and the left, it is clear to me that the conditions do not exist to carry out the balanced work and dialogue that I had proposed together with the other two guarantors of the "Relationship Education" project. I remain convinced - concluded the former PD deputy - that only the comparison between different cultural matrices can produce effective and non-divisive guidelines on the topic of respect for women's freedom".
