Gianfranco Rotondi's Christian Democracy, a party born in 2004, against Totò Cuffaro's Christian Democracy, which saw the light in 2020.

The grain of the choice of the centre-right candidate is not enough. Now comes the age-old clash over the use of the party's name, which could even postpone the regional elections in Sardinia given that, at the end of December, Totò Cuffaro and Francesca Donato for the DC and Mario Adinolfi for the Popolo della Famiglia had announced the agreement in view of the regional elections on February 25th.

"I don't claim to be the Christian Democracy but to have founded a political party 20 years ago whose authorization was given by the legal representatives of the DC", says Rotondi on the one hand. But Totò Cuffaro is not of the same opinion: «Does he believe he received it as an inheritance? We claim to be the DC in continuity with the last congress...".

Rotondi, is the attack, has been using the name Christian Democracy since 2004. «How do I find this sacrament? When I leave the UDC and found this party I ask for authorization from the legal representatives of Piazza del Gesù." For Cuffaro, however, "there are people who use the name of the DC improperly." For this reason he decided to turn to the Avellino court : "We ask that the illegitimate claim of ownership of the name and rights to the party symbol be ascertained", he explained.

The slippage hypothesis is not so far-fetched. «A similar situation arose in 2005 in Piedmont where - says Rotondi - I had a similar tug of war with the UDC. I defended myself and won, so the elections were postponed by a month. Imagine today after twenty years of ordinances, sentences and so on...".
