Tomorrow and Monday there will be votes in Lombardy and Lazio to choose presidents of the Region and regional councils.

Over twelve million citizens will be called to the polls and polling stations will be open tomorrow from 7 to 23 and Monday 13 from 7 to 15.

The last electoral round dates back to 4 March 2018, when in Lazio the exponent and former secretary of the Democratic Party Nicola Zingaretti won, at the head of a centre-left coalition, with 32.93% of the votes, and in Lombardy Attilio Fontana from the Northern League was elected (supported by the Lega, Forza Italia and the Brothers of Italy) with 49.75% of the votes.

The former councilor for health Alessio D'Amato (centre-left and Third Pole), the lawyer Francesco Rocca (centre-right) , the journalist Donatella Bianchi (5 Star Movement and other left-wing lists), the trade unionist Rosa Rinaldi (Popular Union) and Sonia Pecorilli (Italian Communist Party).

In Lombardy, on the other hand, the outgoing Attilio Fontana (centre-right) is running again, who will challenge the MEP of the Pd Pierfrancesco Majorino (centre-left and Movimento 5 Stelle), Letizia Moratti (Third Pole), the former councilor of the Giunta Fontana, and the researcher Mara Ghidorzi (Unione Popolare). The regional council is made up of 80 councilors including the president of the Region.

The counting will begin on Monday at 3 pm, immediately after the polls close.

In both cases, in accordance with regional laws, the "candidate who has obtained the highest number of valid votes in the region" is elected president of the Region, without a ballot.
