The reform of local authorities which brings the provinces to six and the metropolitan cities to two dates back to 2021 but has remained frozen for two years: a little while ago the Chamber approved the article of the Connected Member which gives it legs by updating all the terms, including that to call second-level elections moved to June 30, 2024.

The Councilor for Local Authorities Aldo Salaris recalled that the provision of direct elections, requested by many parties and primarily by the League, falls within the competence of the state . In any case, the Council has approved an amendment which provides for the adaptation of the electoral system to the national one, as soon as this has changed.

In the new political geography of Sardinia there will be the provinces of the North-East, of Nuoro, Ogliastra, Sulcis-Iglesiente, Medio Campidano and Oristano, and the two Metropolitan Cities of Cagliari and Sassari.
