No to the European rearmament plan and stop institutional relations and cooperation with the State of Israel .

These are the decisions taken by a majority vote by the Sardinian regional council in today's session, during which three motions on the war and human rights violations in Gaza were discussed.

The first, number 45, first signed by Luca Pizzuto, leader of the Sinistra Futura group, concerns "opposition to rearmament and the war economy." The approved document commits Todde and the Regional Council "to take a clear stance against any form of support for the European rearmament plan 'ReArm Europe/Readiness 2030' , to support, with the Government, the need to fund programs capable of improving the lives of citizens; those fleeing their countries due to war, poverty, famine, and violence; and to intervene by promoting a culture of peace by establishing a regional plan called 'Peace for Europe'."

Pizzuto also signed the second approved motion , the specific one on Gaza, which "firmly condemns the systematic violations of human rights and international law by the State of Israel against the Palestinian civilian population" and commits the Regional Council "to interrupt all cooperation, exchange, or shared planning between the Region (including agencies, entities, etc.) and the State of Israel, as long as the serious violations confirmed by international institutions persist." The Regional Council also commits to supporting "any international initiative aimed at achieving a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and promoting a peace conference in the Mediterranean, including by nominating Sardinia as the host country."

"It's not just a symbolic vote," exclaims the M5S , " it's a political act that asks the national government and European institutions to review their positions on arms exports and relations with states responsible for serious human rights violations."

The motion by the centre-right, led by Truzzu, was rejected. It aimed to support the Italian government in "continuing its support, already begun together with European and international partners, in seeking every attempt at a negotiated solution between Israel and Palestinian representatives, also starting from the plan prepared by the Arab countries, for the stabilisation and reconstruction of Gaza and to permanently consolidate the cessation of hostilities."
