The center-right conquers Reggio Calabria in the first round after the administration was placed under special administration and holds Venice despite the center-left's assault.
After the administrative elections, satisfaction in the centre-right for the victories of Francesco Cannizzaro – who becomes mayor of Reggio after 12 years of centre-left government – and of Simone Venturini, winner in the lagoon city.
"And even today, we're postponing the much-heralded collapse of the center-right until tomorrow," Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sarcastically commented on social media after the results.
SALERNO – In Salerno, Vincenzo De Luca won a landslide victory in the first round. He is the city's fifth mayor, running for seven civic lists and without the Democratic Party symbol. "I sincerely thank all our candidates for their passionate commitment in a difficult battle," he said. "Starting tomorrow, we will be working tirelessly for our community."
TUSCANY – The center-left wins again without a runoff in several municipalities in the now formerly red Tuscany. Democratic Party (PD) candidate Matteo Biffoni is mayor of Prato for the third time, thanks in part to the excellent results of his civic list. Pistoia, Cascina, Sesto Fiorentino, Incisa, and Figline Valdarno (a Renzi stronghold where David Ermini ran against his former mentor Matteo Renzi) also won. Center-left civic candidate Giovanni Capecchi, who regained Pistoia after nine years, was also elected mayor in the first round. All cities were thoroughly defeated by Democratic Party secretary Schlein and the broad-based party leaders. "United we win," the Tuscan Democratic Party exults. The centrist "oven" is barely visible in a few elections, such as Arezzo, where a runoff is being held, with civic lists and Marco Donati's Azione party holding 20 percent.
