Cagliari doesn't end the survival issue, on the contrary they sink at the Meazza and lose 5-1 against Milan . A result that will force the rossoblù to look for points to stay in Serie A in the last two matchdays, with Sassuolo away and Fiorentina at home.
" Five goals seem too many to me, but they scored them so well done ", commented Claudio Ranieri from Meazza. « In the first half we were too timid, we should have been more proactive and tried to score goals . In the second half we created, at 3-1 we took the posts and their goalkeeper made some good saves." Now Cagliari must start again, knowing they will have to suffer until the end: «We knew that today was a wildcard match . We came here to have a great test, for large stretches we did it even without the carefreeness of attacking. When we did it the distances were a little long and they took advantage of it, making the ball move quickly."
Last step
Cagliari today found a Milan contested by their fans, who hadn't won for over a month and who no longer had any goals. Yet they lost 5-1, at the home of the Rossoneri where they had not found three points since 1 June 1997 (from then on only two draws, then all defeats). "I didn't reproach the boys for anything, just - as mentioned - that we were too shy", reiterates Ranieri. « There was an opportunity with Luvumbo who gave the ball too far back, otherwise Shomurodov would have found himself alone in front of the goalkeeper. He still has to grow up, but he's a good boy ."
The coach is doubtful about the survival quota: «How many points are needed? I don't know, it depends on a lot of things. Now there's a big match against Sassuolo where a lot will be decided , then we'll think about Fiorentina. One team at a time." With one regret: «The goals conceded are too many for my way of seeing football, but we can't stop complaining. We must prepare well for the last two days, with the awareness of what we are going to play."
