" Leicester gave me much of the world fame I have now, but my dream as a coach remains Cagliari ."
Claudio Ranieri confided this during a speech during the Trento Sport Festival.
"I arrived in the rossoblù - recalls the coach - in a difficult moment for the team , but despite the conflicting opinion of people close to me I decided to coach Cagliari to test myself . Then I moved to Naples and then to Florence, winning the Italian Cup. with Fiorentina di Batistuta and Rui Costa ".
Then the coach retraced his period on the Juventus bench : "My adventure was interrupted because I did not want Cannavaro's return to Juventus . This was not for the player who was Fabio, whom I knew very well since I had launched him in the Primavera Naples; but because after several champions had remained with Juventus also in Serie B in the year of Calciopoli it did not seem correct to me that, having changed air by winning elsewhere, Cannavaro would thus return to Turin ".
As for my career as a footballer , “as a boy - said the coach - I have always had many dreams. I entered Rome in '69, just before I was 18. Until that moment I had only played at the oratory, so you can imagine with what emotion I entered Helenio Herrera's Rome. My career started as a striker, but realizing that I couldn't score many goals, I decided to change my role, putting myself in defense . From Rome I moved on to Catanzaro, where I understood that I could stay in the world of Serie A, even though I also played three Serie B championships there, winning two ".
