Sardinia will be able to count on 290 million euros for the modernization of the railway connections between Olbia, Sassari and Cagliari. The island route is among those that will benefit from funding from the Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport dedicated to logistics and mobility. The list of sections has been included in the attachment to the Economic and Financial Document which illustrates the policies of the Draghi government on railways. Interventions that will be able to count on an endowment of approximately 280 billion euros also thanks to the projects financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan: fundamental money to overcome the infrastructural gap in some areas of the country. The construction sites and technological investments will not only concern the Sardinian lines: in the plans of Palazzo Chigi there is also the investment on the high-speed network between Salerno and Reggio Calabria, the section between Verona and the Brenner Pass and the completion of the Turin-Lyon line.

Priority

Enrico Giovannini, holder of the delegation for Infrastructure in the government led by Mario Draghi, illustrated the contents of the annexes to the Def, explaining the choices underlying the programming. All the interventions have been identified considering some objectives: the ecological and digital transition also of infrastructures, the competitiveness of companies, the safety and well-being of people and the reduction of inequalities between north and south but also between internal areas.

"Green" turn

The Minister also stressed the adoption of new methods in the execution of the works: "The reforms approved this year will ensure not only the construction of new infrastructures with less impact on the ecosystem but also the reduction of construction times, the involvement of local communities in decisions, increasing the resilience of existing infrastructures, also thanks to the use of digital technologies. We will have a medium-long term vision ».

The island will also have the opportunity to present projects related to the other interventions. The Def has planned to reserve 3.2 billion for air terminals and over 32 billion for local public transport in metropolitan areas.
