The howls aimed at Makoumbou cost the Verona fans dearly. The sports judge disqualified the Bentegodi's Curva Sud Inferiore for two days for the racist chants that started from the stadium at the time of the expulsion.

The fact was also underlined and condemned by the Cagliari coach, Claudio Ranieri , at the end of the match, when he said: «Whoever is in charge needs to do something. Still picking on skin color. It was a shame to hear the chants against Makoumbou, but it has now become an Italian custom", the words of the coach in the press room.

According to the Lega di A press release, this would not be an episode limited to a few supporters: «These chants», says the report, «were sung by approximately 1,000 of the 1,900 supporters of the Hellas Verona club occupying the sector called 'Curva Sud Inferiore '» .

In particular, the sanction came into effect after the previous one on 13 June, when the club had benefited from the suspension of the sentence. The repeat offense has now led to disqualification.
