Rediscovering and refreshing the creative and playful freedom that characterized so much of the great Italian music of the past: this is the artistic mission of "Quando un suonano," Elio's new concert-show, coming to Cagliari's Teatro Massimo for a double date on Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st at 9 pm. With talented collaborators and a wealth of inspiration, the offbeat rock superstar returns to the Sardinian capital after the huge success of his latest piece, "Ci vuole orecchio."
From Dario Fo and Felice Andreasi to Gaber and Jannacci, through groups like Cochi e Renato and I Gufi, the initiative shines a spotlight on a generation of unforgivably eccentric and contrarian artists who, despite their misunderstandings, ultimately won over critics and the general public, demonstrating their seriousness and talent even through their "lighthearted songs."
Through music, theater, and cabaret, the 1960s (and beyond) are explored by Elio and a band of young virtuosos, reinterpreting a great era of Italian music and paying homage to the first person to break the mold and conventions of a certain Italian standard, reaffirming the importance of laughter, especially when it comes to musicians.
With dramaturgy and direction by Giorgio Gallione, and scenic contributions from Lorenza Gioberti (set design), Elisabetta Menziani (costume design), and Andrea Violato (lighting), the ensemble will accompany Elio following musical arrangements by Paolo Silvestri. The ensemble includes Alberto Tafuri (piano), Martino Malacrida (drums), Pietro Martinelli (bass and double bass), Matteo Zecchi (saxophone), and Giulio Tullio (trombone). The two evenings are organized by the Il Jazzino association and the Imarts agency, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Region of Sardinia, and the Fondazione Sardegna.
