On his Instagram profile, Achille Polonara sent a reassuring message late this morning to the tens of thousands of people (not only in basketball and not only in Italy) who have supported him since he revealed he was suffering from myeloid leukemia.
This morning, the Ancona-born player underwent a bone marrow transplant, donated by an American woman who is 90% compatible. Now comes the recovery phase, with the goal, repeatedly reiterated by "ilpupazzo33" (his nickname), of "passing the medical tests and returning to play."
Polonara continues to share every stage of his journey, aiming to raise awareness about both screening and donations.
