The first event of the initiative promoted by the Forestas Agency is scheduled for November 7 and 8, 2026 in Seui, Montarbu forest complex.
A stylized forest composed of seven treetops and seven circles in warm shades of green, held within a primordial embrace: this is the visual and symbolic heart of "Forestas Insieme - Festival of Sardinian Forests"—the new major initiative promoted by the Forestas Agency.
The logo contains a profound metaphor : the protective gesture of a mother towards the life that is born ideally merges with the care that Sardinia devotes to its natural heritage.
The number seven refers to the Agency's Territorial Services and the seven key locations that will host the event. The initiative is an evolution of the historic "Open Forests" format and aligns with the institutional mission : protection, sustainable management, fire prevention, and biodiversity conservation, but also development of the environment and the territory as an economic resource, a tourist attraction, and an environmental asset.
Guided by four key concepts—Enchantment, Fertility, Sharing, and Generative Practices—and consistent with the Charter of Principles for Regional Forestry, the Festival invites residents and visitors to slow down , breathe in the clean air, and appreciate its value. The forest isn't just to be explored along the trails of the Sardinian Hiking Network (RES) managed by Forestas—it needs to be understood and listened to, grasping its ecological balance and profound connection to the history of local communities.
The departure weekend: November 7th and 8th in Seui (Montarbu)
Among centuries-old holm oaks, lush cork oak groves, crystal-clear streams, and evocative Nuragic remains nestled in the woods and camouflaged by moss that returns to its natural green in autumn, the first event of the Festival will offer a two-day event combining knowledge, exercise, and local culture.
On Saturday, November 7th, at 4:00 PM, the Is Minadoris Multipurpose Center will host a conference entitled "The Forest as an Ecological and Cultural Infrastructure of Ogliastra," which will discuss wild flora and fauna, landscape, and sustainable environmental education. Speakers will include technicians from the Forestas Agency, experts, and representatives of local communities.
Also on the program is a nature exhibition on the biodiversity and fauna of the Montarbu forest.
On Sunday, the focal point will be the Montarbu Forest, accessible from Anulù via the shuttle service provided for participants. The day's activities will begin here: participants can choose from one of the proposed trekking itineraries, varying in difficulty and travel time. Some routes will ascend the Ermolinus River to the summit of Margiani Pubusa, while others will lead participants to discover two monumental holm oaks, silent witnesses to the life of the forest. For those who prefer two wheels, mountain bike excursions along forest trails are also planned, in an environment rich in wildlife. The wonders of the forest can also be explored through less active experiences: yoga and meditation sessions, archery activities, and environmental workshops.
Part of the program is aimed especially at younger audiences, with games and educational activities specifically designed to introduce them to biodiversity and the balance of natural habitats. Also of interest will be the language workshop dedicated to Sardinian forest words, a journey to discover the naturalistic lexicon of Ogliastra, which evokes and enhances the relationship between language, environment, and local identity.
Alongside the activities in the forest, there will also be space for Seui's products and traditions, with tastings of typical products, craft stands, and other local businesses. The day will also be accompanied by a musical performance by a wind quintet. The Montarbu Forest Natural History Museum will also be open to visitors, with free admission.
All events are free, but reservations are required and seating is limited. Information, the program, and registration are available on Forestas Insieme.
