Provinces, the Regional Council requests the return to direct elections
Deriu (Pd): «An important step to defend an entity useful for preserving the territory»Video di Stefano Fioretti
Unanimous approval in the Regional Council for the proposed national law for the direct election of the presidents of the Provinces and Provincial Councils. In this way the Sardinian Assembly certifies the will to overcome the Delrio law - the same objective has a national bill that has already begun its process in Parliament - which instead provides for the second level vote.
An approval that therefore has more of a political meaning and will have no practical effects, considering that by July the President of the Region will have to set the date (in September) for the second level elections. First signatory of the law, the leader of the Democratic Party Roberto Deriu: «This is an important step for those who fought for the preservation of the Provinces, a useful body for preserving the territory. This is a good day». Green light also to a summary amendment that also incorporates a proposal by Antonello Peru (Sardegna al centro 20Venti), where it is specified that the use of direct election must also be applied to the metropolitan cities of Cagliari and Sassari.
