Three evenings of music, storytelling, and cultural events will illuminate Quartu Sant'Elena throughout the month of September: this evening marks the official premiere of PropagaSuoni – Festival delle Musiche del Mediterraneo, a festival dedicated to the intertwining cultures and traditions of the Mediterranean. The events will take place in the garden of The Old Tipsy pub, coordinated by the Gong Association and supported by the Municipality and Fondazione Sardegna.
A lively Quartu
Organized in collaboration with the Il Formicaio Association and under the artistic direction of Marco Sotgiu, this first edition of Propagasuoni demonstrates the growing cultural offerings in Quartu, which, despite being the third most populous city on the island, has for years suffered from a certain peripherality compared to a monopolizing capital. But today, this is no longer the case, thanks in part to venues like The Old Tipsy at Via D'Annunzio 14: for some time now, the pub has hosted readings, performances, and live concerts, often in the secret garden that will host the three evenings of Propagasuoni.
The preview
Tonight's preview, which precedes the main event of the festival scheduled for September 27th and 28th, begins at 9 pm with a narrative concert centered around Sergio Atzeni's posthumous novel "Passavamo sulla Terra Leggeri" (We Were Passing on the Earth Light). The concert is organized by the Tra Parola E Musica – Casa di Suoni e Racconti association, featuring Elisa Zedda, Cristina Lanzi, and Andrea Congia. Having previously performed Michela Murgia's "Accabadora," the collective combines music, reading, performance, and video scenography to bring the selected authors' works to life. Murgia's work was recently toured throughout Sicily and Calabria.
The live of the festival
The festival will continue over the last weekend of September, with the conference "Music from the Mediterranean: Between Cultures and Historical Identities" on the 27th and concerts by Italian-Tunisian musician Mauro Sigura (with Robindro Nikolic Mukherjee) and the trio of Francesca Corrias, Salvatore Maiore, and Francesco Sotgiu, with the addition of Turkish multi-instrumentalist Mübin Dünen. The grand finale on the 28th will be performed by the Nodas Trio, led by Peo Alfonsi and featuring guest vocals by Denise Gueye.
