On the occasion of the World Glaucoma Week – scheduled from 12 to 18 March – an awareness and prevention campaign will be promoted in collaboration with the University Hospital of Cagliari . According to the WHO, the World Health Organization, the degenerative eye disease in question afflicts around 55 million people worldwide and is the leading cause of irreversible blindness . It is often related to too high eye pressure , so prevention and early diagnosis are of fundamental importance to stem the damage.

Throughout the next week, the volunteers of the Cagliari territorial section of the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired Onlus - APS will distribute information material on the prevention of glaucoma in the main squares of the capital. Also this year it will be possible to make free visits to the university ophthalmology department of the San Giovanni di Dio hospital .
