Pozzomaggiore, applause and a large crowd for the Ardia di San Costantino
In Giave everything is ready for the Ardia di San Sebastiano
Pozzomaggiore has renewed the ancient rite of the Ardia in honor of San Costantino.
The traditional horse race took place in a square packed with people, not only from Pozzomaggiore but also from neighboring villages.
It was led by “Su caddu 'e punta” Salvatore Lai, in a masterful way, while in the role of first escort there were Gianfranco Cuccuru and Giancomita Nurra, the second escort Giuseppe Nurra and Gavinuccio Piu and the third escort Angelo Cuccuru and Gabriele Cuccuru .
Just before the Ardia, the dressing of the race leaders and the procession led by the civil and military authorities took place. Immediately after their arrival in the Church, the Via dell'Ardia aroused, as always, emotions and applause from the crowd. The horses traveled three laps of the church in an anticlockwise direction and the same number in a clockwise direction.
GIAVE – In Giave the wait for the Ardia di San Sebastiano is thrilling. This is an event which attracts many tourists arriving from all over Sardinia to the town of Meilogu and which will be the setting for the long-awaited celebrations in honor of the saint. It will begin on July 15th at 6 pm, with the meeting of the knights at the house of the obriere maggiore.
At 19 there will be the blessing of the flags in the Church of Sant'Andrea by the parish priest Don Pietro Faedda, Don Peppino Lintas and Don Davide Onida. Immediately afterwards the Ardia will begin. The procession will follow through the streets of the town. At 10 pm dinner will be served in Piazza dell'Olmo, offered to the population and present by the San Sebastiano 2023 committee, accompanied by the band "Durusia in concert. Those wonderful 60s and... not only!".
Sunday 16 July at 9.30, immediately after the blessing of the flags in the Church of Sant'Andrea, a new Ardia will start. At the end the Holy Mass will be celebrated in the Church of Santa Croce which will be animated by the songs of the "Antonino Paba" polyphonic choir from Giave. In the afternoon, at 16, in Corso Repubblica, the first race of the Municipalities will be held. The speaker of the event will be Andrea Rosas. At 10 pm, in Piazza San Francesco, space for the concert of the band "double Dose". The party will end with the drawing of lottery tickets.
