After pressure from the unions, the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy convened the first table of the technical working group on Portovesme Srl . The appointment is for Wednesday 17 May at 2.30 pm in via Molise in Rome , although it will also be possible to connect via videoconference.

The body will have 12 members: six trade union representatives, two representatives of the company and two of Mimit, one respectively for the Region of Sardinia and Confindustria .

The restricted working group will have to discuss Glencore's project on new productions of raw materials for electric batteries. However, the possibility of carrying out the project is affected by the shortcomings of the Community legislation, as recalled by the company itself.

Currently the black mass, the raw material obtained from the recycling of batteries and rich in metals such as lithium, manganese and cobalt, is seen in the EU as a hazardous waste. Hence the request to write environmental rules that can allow the reuse of this material, in order to recover it and promote a circular economy for the creation of new batteries.
